Inspiration - what media am i plugged into?

Space Ghost Coast to Coast - Volume Three - "This is 1997"

i guess i slept on Adult Swim majorly because i never really saw any of it until december

Space Ghost seems to have captured my attention most

Harvey Birdman is also good

the clips ive seen of Robot Chicken have been hilarious (the ones that come to mind most is the one with Voltron breakdancing and the one with The Incredible Hulk growing up

ive seen a bit of Aqua Teen Hunger Force

its too bad the world seems to be teetering on the brink of apocalypse because some of the entertainment coming out these days is absolutely brilliant

Nintendo DS - Meteos

a falling-brick game

ive had this joint for almost a year now but never really played it until last week

its actually incredible as far as falling-brick games go

the game screen can seem pretty hectic at first - actually thats prolly the reason why i never really picked up on it - but once you get the hang of it, it turns out the design is pretty good

a lot of information packed on the screen

also - the character and block design is really well done

Madvillain - MF Doom and Madlib

actually - i got 4 Doom albums on rotation in my beat-up duct taped CD player
Madvillain
MM Food
Viktor Vaughn the Vaudeville Villain
and DangerMouse (which - ironically - turns out to be centered on Adult Swim programming)

im not even gonna start talking about Doom right now

dude has so much verbal mastery its almost creepy

everybody needs to be a MC

Golden State Warriors: Outer Space Night

sweet mother of god this logo took me a decade

if you look closely, you will see that the main body has a outer-space texture to it, and the background basketball is the moon

prolly too much detail
but it worked out in the end

it looks like i am starting to get a hang of this photoshop business

so many options

a lot of it has to do with planning it out in your head before-hand in a manner where you will run into the fewest problems

the second rule seems to be to maintain consistency throughout the layers of the image

this particular image ended up with at least 15 layers to it

i imagine a expert could do it with fewer
but
using layers properly gives a lot of flexibility

it is a different approach to creating things, thats for sure

i would almost go as far as saying it is 3-dimensional the way you have to stack layers on top of each other and conceptualize transparent regions

anyway

to appreciate the full splendor of this logo - view the larger version of it

like orion in the night sky or some shit

Peace

The Death of Doc Doom: Wu-Tang Family Loses Another Member

Unfortunate news today as a member of West Coast Wu Fam Affiliate Doc Doom was killed.

Yet another tragedy has struck the Wu-fam and Hip Hop community as another talented artist was murdered. Doc Doom from the Wu-fam group The Almighty Black Knights was shot and killed in Compton on February 11th.

Doc Doom and his Black Knights appeared on releases such as RZA Presents Wu-Tang Killa Bees: The Swarm.

Doc Doom, real name Dante Cunningham, was working on new material for the Black Knights as well as contributing to the upcoming Bobby Digital album due late this year.

We mourn for the loss of Doc Doom and wish to send our condolences to his family and friends.

Black Knights always released dope material.

Back in 2002, their work on The Sting got heavy rotation in my stereo.

This is truly unfortunate.

All these guns are getting boring.

Let's stick to the fists so we can all talk about it after.

Be easy Doc Doom.

We are Slipping into a Strange Situation

how obvious does the writing on the wall have to be?

"Advertising is creeping onto cellphones around the globe"

Advertising on your mobile phone? Yes, and soon.

Already, ads are creeping onto cellphones around the globe. At this rate, experts say, it will not be long before the 2.2 billion mobile phone users around the world consider it natural to tune into a 15-second spot before watching a video, sending a message or listening to a downloaded song in between phone conversations.

you are either involved in broadcasting messages, or you will be a victim of messages being broadcast

who does your cooking?

who does your thinking?

a lot of people may suggest that there is no need to be alarmed
-- and that may be true --

but at the very least, people have a responsibility to understand just what they/we are getting involved in

they will advertise on the insides of your eyelids

--have you ever had a dream where a logo appeared in the dream?
check it out next time you go to sleep

Rollerblade Project

in Sketching for Communications class, we have started the researching / brainstorming / resource compiling aspect of the 'Rollerblade Project'

basically
the final outcome is going to involve producing a tag that one would find attached to the product when buying rollerblades

sort of like a information tag or whatever

my first impulse about this project:
how do you create a piece of engaging media in a situation where people are not looking for engaging media?

i thought back over the years to situations where i purchased things and any situations where i may have kept the tag

i thought of a couple situations

one was for a coat and the tag had detailed specifications for the coat - how it was constructed and all the benefits
also there was a bunch of cool pictures

the other situations i recall was when the tag wasnt actually a tag, but more like a plastic toy

i remember back in the early '90s when everybody was buying Patrick Ewing shoes, and they all came with a little rubber key-chain basketball

nike did something similar with a plastic logo-device

im gonna see if i can track any of this stuff down

Rabbits

This is a couple weeks old, but in sketch class we had to put together some sort of rabbit.

The instructor told us to put it up on our blog, so this is me putting the rabbit up on the blog.

the thing on the right is a carrot

i am determined to use some part of this picture in some capacity for some project at a later date

ill at least take a line from it

paste it into photoshop

just because

i understand what they are getting at in this course - compiling elements to be used in projects

the more you look around, the more you recognize that the entire universe is elements

copy
paste
trace
edit
refine
alter
distort
filter

old things become new

routine becomes sensational

its hard to believe that some people experience boredom in this universe

Photoshop

damn there is almost too many options on this program

it seems to be a matter of having a general idea and then messing around until you get something that looks like what youre looking for

i guess there is some matter of precision and consistency involved

but on the whole, this program is like one big art tool

swiss army paint kit

here is my first edit of the Golden State Warriors Logo:

actually no

the photo will not upload for some reason

maybe its too big

stay tuned for updates
